Planting your Lake or Wetland Shoreline
This workshop will explore options for shoreline landscaping along lake and wetland edges . Get excited with photos of beautiful planting projects, learn which native plants to use on lakeshore and wetland edges, and how to build new gardens that integrate naturally with existing landscaping.
Shoreline plantings are an effective method for stabilizing lake and wetland edges and also provide many other benefits. Native plants do not require mowing, fertilizing or pesticides. After the first year, they don’t even need to be watered! Blue Thumb gardens attract birds and butterflies and discourage geese from congregating.
Participants will leave with a packet of information as well as resources for design and installation assistance. The Blue Thumb Shoreline class is focused on re-establishment of native plants on moderately stable shorelines and does not address stabilization techniques associated with major shoreline erosion issues.

This workshop is supported locally by the Rice Creek and Valley Branch Watershed Districts and City of Dellwood.
The Ramsey and Washington Conservation Districts will provide free site visits after the workshops to help make dream gardens a reality, and people living in high priority areas within the Rice Creek and Valley Branch Watershed Districts may even qualify for grants to install shoreline projects.
