Notes:
Pond-Dakota Mission Park is the site of the historic Oak Grove Mission and the 1856 Gideon and Agnes Pond House. Located along the bluffs of the Minnesota River, the site was founded by missionaries to the Dakota Indians and farmers and ministers in Bloomington, Gideon and brother, Samuel. Historic buildings and educational signage explain and interpret the Native American and early European settlement of the site, and volunteers will now help restore the historic landscape as well. Volunteers of all ages, skills, and abilities are welcome to “step back in time,” while also participating in this fun and rewarding project. Tours will be provided as part of the volunteer event.
This project is made possible by support from the City of Bloomington and by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund as recommended by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) through Great River Greening’s membership in the Metro Conservation Corridors partnership.
