Partner Project Detail
Mahtomedi yard
Notes
Owned by a Master Gardener, this yard features beautiful shade landscaping with a mix of native plants like ferns and false Solomon's seal as well as hostas and other garden store varieties.
During the summer of 2009, the owner installed an innovative porous driveway with cost-share funding from Rice Creek Watershed and design assistance from Washington Conservation District. The driveway has three strips of grassy pave that allow water to soak in but are strong enough to drive on. The bottom half is made of porous paver blocks that drain to an underground storage system that holds 2100 gallons of water. The owner uses this water to irrigate her gardens during the summer.
New in 2009, there is also a small front yard raingarden that is planted entirely with shade-loving native plants.
