Native Alternatives to Commonly Planted Exotic Plants
November 9, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
FREE & Open to the PublicJoin The Wild Ones – Prairie Edge chapter for a presentation by Ruth Peterson, Carver-Scott County Master Gardener on native plant alternatives to commonly planted exotic plants.
While working on restoring the woodland areas on our property, Ruth learned about the many benefits that native plants offer to our landscapes. Prompted by a search for a better option to the common orange daylily (Hemerocallis fulva), she began to explore ways to incorporate more native plants into more traditional gardens, especially as replacements for invasive non-native plants.
This talk proposes Minnesota native alternatives that deliver beautiful flowers and structure to the garden, along with food for birds and insects, while providing better ecological solutions and easier care than many of the traditional garden plants that are commonly used.
