Habitat at Home: Rewild Your Plate
Rewild Your Plate: Foraging for Ecosystem Health and Resilience
Wild edible plants are all around us, and there are so many good reasons to get to know them! This webinar explores how foraging-grounded-in-stewardship is an important tool to protect native biodiversity, elevate indigenous knowledge and lifeways, restore relationships between people and ecosystems, and reduce our reliance on mainstream industrial food systems. We will cover around 25 wild edibles in this talk, and how to use their ecology to guide harvesting practices. Interesting aspects of habitat, nutrition, preparation, and preservation will also be shared.
Presenter Sarah Foltz Jordan is a conservation biologist and educator based in Duluth, MN. She recently launched the Conservation Foraging Center, an initiative to bring more attention to the critical connection between giving stewardship and finding nourishment in wild spaces. Previously, she worked for fifteen years at the Xerces Society where she focused on habitat restoration for native pollinators across the Great Lakes region. She has a special love of leaf-cutter bees, hyper-diverse pestos, and anything related to mushrooms, especially: mushroom-eating insects, insect-eating mushrooms, kids picking mushrooms, etc.
