We had some water issues on this side of our house so in addition to grading, we built two rain gardens surrounded by native plants, shrubs and a tree. This area used to be the only area of our yard that required watering and mowing. Now it requires neither! It is also a beautiful and fun space for us to enjoy. We built three different paths to walk through and enjoy it. Neighbors love the little native strawberries in the early summer.
Wildlife Observed
So many monarch caterpillars (this year we spotted 15 at one time!), including some that make their cocoons on our house and our neighbors. The last two years we have watched them emerge. We also get hummingbirds and so many bees and bugs.
