100+ year old farm site and we planted on what was (15+ yrs prior) pasture land. We wish we could apply for another L2L grant to enlarge!!! We under-estimated the growing power of ‘native’ plants! While we tried hard to follow planting space guidelines we believe the combination of plants being native and the soil makeup our garden was sooo full this, 2nd year, that I needed to sacrifice many new sprouts to make growth room for original plants that were being crowded out.”
We expanded the size a wee bit from last yr but plan to expand more in fall — hoping to fill the entire 3/4 acre with pollinator plants, bird bath’s w/ drip lines and a path down the middle.
Wildlife Observed
various birds – finch, wren, bluebird, sparrow, robin, ect, lots of bee’s, both honey & bumble larva & various butterflies, rabbits & their babies, hummingbird, garter snakes (icky!!)”
