Sand amended with compost. Mostly sun with shade at one end. I did a lot of research, starting with the Blue Thumb resources, and found plants that would thrive in my area and with my soil and light conditions. I amended the sandy soil with compost which has helped maintain moisture in the area resulting in less hand watering and easier weed control.
Even with native plants, it is still a garden and not all of the plants survived. A couple varieties I replanted and they still have not survived so I have had to move on to different plants.
Maintenance of the area has been easier since putting in native plants that thrive in the hot, dry, sandy soil. It requires less watering.
It has been fun researching and finding different plants.
Some of the plants have grown really well and I’ve already been sharing them with other gardeners while other plants are taking longer to get established.

Wildlife Observed
