Gardener Comments

My area has very sandy soil. I had already started planting pollinator friendly gardens in previous years but the Lawns to Legumes grant helped me add a big chunk to my yard.
I would love to expand the gardens further but there’s getting quite a lot to try and maintain, though I have gotten quite a lot of positive feedback from my neighbors (including one who used to compare my yard to the secret garden and said she loved sitting out on her deck to see which flowers were in bloom).

Wildlife Observed

I see lots of bumblebees and different types of native bees, also it’s not unusual to see butterflies and moths (although sadly, I have noticed a large decline in butterfly sightings the last few years). It’s also not unusual to see hummingbirds zipping through my large patch of monarda fistula or stopping to eat at the royal catchfly plants I have scattered around.
