Gardener Comments

Was a lawn that was ruined by a grub infestation. Mulch was sooo important! It helped keep down all the weeds except thistles, dandelion, and creeping bellflower. Plus with the dry year we had last, it helped retain moisture. Keep it from smothering seedlings, though! I also put a fence around the entire area.. there are lots of rabbits in my neighborhood.
I am in awe about how big some of the plants are in year two! I put markers by every plant over the winter. That was helpful in the spring. I had thought I lost most of my lupine, but they are coming in even now. The mixed pack I purchased from a native nursery was helpful to get blooms all season.

Wildlife Observed

Just bees so far. Not many butterflies nor hummingbirds.I thought I maybe saw a rusty patched bumblebee once, but I wasn’t certain.
