Large, dense canopy, deciduous tree with a long trunk, dense crown, and many small, drooping branches, growing up to 60-100' tall, deep shade and often several stems. Its large leaves and dense shade make it well suited for a shade or ornamental tree. When in flower, it is full of bees. Basswood should be considered for most forest restorations. It is also well suited for upland buffers, vegetated swales, and soil stabilization.
