Blue Thumb’s 2021 State Fair Exhibit again features the Lawns to Legumes program, as a state-wide opportunity for every Minnesotan to learn about and install native plants in their yard. We welcome Blue Thumb partners, Minnesota Water Stewards, Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, and native-plant enthusiasts as volunteers. All exhibit volunteers will receive a state fair entry ticket (one for each day they volunteer) and further instructions.
In response to the *sigh* continually evolving COVID-19 epidemic, we have made some changes to our normal exhibit and staffing plan. Primarily, we will have wider pathways, fewer handouts and more QR codes and webpages to point people to for information. And we will begin with fewer volunteer spots per day: the morning is generally the busiest time so every 9am-12pm will still have two spots. But weekdays after noon will begin with one spot per shift—our goal is to cover as many shifts as possible before potentially opening up more spots.
We will be prepared to follow all guidelines from the CDC, MDH, MPCA, and Eco Experience regarding COVID-19. As of now, all volunteers are asked to maintain social distancing, regardless of their vaccination status. The MPCA has required that volunteers (and even visitors) to wear a mask inside the Eco Experience building, and outside when social distancing is not possible (it should normally be very easy at our exhibit). We will keep volunteers informed of any prevention and sanitation measures as they are announced and implemented.
